Trauma-informed care.

Shifting the focus from “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?”

Trauma-informed care (TIC) is becoming increasingly prevalent in both the medical and mental health communities following years of research proving the significant impacts of trauma on both the mind and body. From adverse childhood experience (ACE) scores to intergenerational trauma to microaggressions, humans are exposed to trauma from the moment they’re conceived. TIC incorporates this knowledge into diagnosis, treatment planning, and treatment execution in order to provide the most sensitive and dynamic care possible. TIC’s primary principles include collaboration, transparency, empowerment, humility and responsiveness. Most importantly, TIC seeks to create an environment of safety, free from exposure to retraumatization.

Under the present brutal and primitive conditions on this planet, every person you meet should be regarded as one of the walking wounded. We have never seen a man or woman not slightly deranged by either anxiety or grief. We have never seen a totally sane human being.
