Emily Murcko is a Boston-based clinical psychotherapist specializing in the holistic treatment of trauma-related disorders. Emily is passionate about providing empathetic, trauma-informed care to all of her patients, utilizing a wide variety of approaches and techniques. Favorite modalities include Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) (Emily is certified through the Medical University of South Carolina). Above all, Emily believes the quality of connection between therapist and patient is critical, and is dedicated to creating strong interpersonal bonds in the therapeutic milieu.

Emily has a wide range of  direct care experience in both clinical and case management settings such as homeless shelters, group homes, hospitals, and outpatient psychiatric units. She currently works full-time at Arbour Counseling Services’ Psychiatric Partial Hospitalization Program as a clinician leading group therapy involving emotional processing, psychoeducation, coping skill development, and recovery from addictive behaviors.

Recently, Emily completed her clinical placement at the Justice Resource Institute’s Trauma Response Team, where she worked closely with victims and perpetrators of community violence. There, Emily provided mental health care to those in the community experiencing acute trauma immediately following the loss of a loved one to violence, or who had experienced a violent attack themselves. Emily also provided psychological support to community members at funerals, vigils, and memorial services.

Emily earned her Master of Education from Cambridge College in Clinical Psychology, specializing in the study of trauma and trauma-related disorders in spring of 2022. She graduated from Lesley University with a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Psychology, --specializing in complementary, integrative, alternative and holistic medicines and therapies-- in spring of 2013. In addition, Emily is currently assisting in research development with the Justice Resource Institute’s Trauma Center under the supervision of Dr. Katherine McCarthy studying the effect of COVID-19 on clinicians’ levels of stress and burnout.

About you.

Emily’s ideal client is curious, motivated, emotionally available, and has capacity for insight and self examination. Emily works with adults ages 18-65. Perhaps clients have been dealing with psychic pain for some time, and have a desire to make changes to their circumstances and life experience. She particularly enjoys engaging in psychoeducation and philosophical conversations with clients. Emily is at her best clinician self when neurally integrated with clients in ways that promote intimate connection. Clients who struggle with trauma-- however it is defined by the client themselves are her specialty, and are a galvanizing factor.. Lastly, clients who are from historically oppressed populations inspire passion in her work. Overall, Emily is open to working with patients from diverse backgrounds of all iterations.
